Bodegas Marques de Riscal Rioja XR Special Release Reserva 2017
The origins of the go back to 1858, when the Marques de Riscal, who was resident in Bordeaux, was asked to hire a French winemaker to help the locals improve their winemaking techniques, four years later in 1862 they produced the first ever Rioja wine to be bottled.
In the tradition of the Bordeaux cellarmasters, the enologist used to mark some of the barrels in chalk with the letters XR, on having found some special characteristics which were not present in others. Riscal are now reviving this practise to be in touch with their history and release these stunning wines. Intense black-cherry colour with good depth of colour. Very expressive aromas on the nose with notes of liquorice, cinnamon and black pepper, with just a subtle hint of the long cask-ageing and ripe, concentrated blueberries and blackcurrants with balsamic notes. Good backbone and lovely, polished tannins leading to a long, persistent finish.

Delivery
We deliver nationwide and offer a quick and convenient service.
How much does it cost?
Local delivery is free of charge within 35 miles of Nailsworth when ordering 12 full-size wines or more.
Nationwide delivery is charged at £12.95 per case of 12 full-size wines.
Vinotopia Wine Club members receive a monthly free nationwide delivery as part of their membership.
Please note that for remote parts of the country, such as 'highlands and islands' the delivery may take a couple days longer and may cost more than £12.95 per case. Please get in touch for a quote
How long does it take?
Typically two or three days. But experience warns us not to promise that this will always happen, so if you need something by a certain date, give us a ring, and we will do our best to ensure it happens.
What time will it arrive?
Usually deliveries take place between 8am to 7pm, Monday to Friday.
Do I need to be at the delivery address when my wine arrives?
Not if you have told us that your wine can be left somewhere for you. Make sure you leave clear instructions when you place your order - there is an opportunity to do this when you pay. Alternatively, the driver will leave a card with a telephone number for you to ring to rearrange delivery another time, following which you must do so within 3 days or the wine will come back to us.
Finally...
When you’ve got hold of your wine, do inspect it as soon as possible. In the extremely unlikely event that something is broken or missing, let us know straight away so that we can sort it out for you.
